The Long Game Philosophy
At The Long Game Academy, we prioritise development over short-term results. Our focus is on building strong technical foundations, game understanding, and decision-making that compound over time.
Rather than chasing quick wins, we help players develop the habits, awareness, and composure required to perform consistently at higher levels as they grow.
Mindset & Environment
Football development doesn’t happen in isolation. We create a calm, supportive environment where players build emotional control, resilience, and confidence alongside their football ability.
By educating and involving parents, we reduce pressure, strengthen alignment, and create the conditions for players to thrive both on and off the pitch.
Jamie Bowden
Meet our founder
Jamie Bowden is a former professional footballer and the founder of The Long Game Academy. With over 15 years spent in elite academy environments, Jamie brings a calm, thoughtful approach to player development rooted in lived experience.
Having seen both the demands and challenges of professional football, his work now focuses on mindset, awareness, and sustainable long-term growth, helping players and families navigate development with clarity, balance, and perspective both on and off the pitch.
Development Programs
A holistic approach to player development that balances on-pitch football education with mindset, awareness, and a supportive environment. Our programs are designed to help players grow with clarity, confidence, and long-term perspective rather than chasing short-term results.
Technical Mastery
Technical Mastery focuses on developing strong technical foundations, game understanding, and decision-making under pressure.
Sessions are delivered in small groups to allow for detail, repetition, and meaningful feedback. Players are challenged in possession-based environments that encourage composure, creativity, and awareness, helping them understand the game rather than simply react to it.
The emphasis is on building consistent habits, confidence on the ball, and a deeper understanding of how and why decisions are made within the game.
Training is purposeful, structured, and aligned with long-term development rather than short-term results.

Monday Reset (Players)
Every Monday at 7pm
The Monday Reset is a weekly Zoom session designed to support players mentally and emotionally alongside their football development.
Each week, players learn how to reflect on performances, manage pressure, build confidence, respond to mistakes, and develop resilience. The sessions help players understand that football is part of who they are, not all of who they are.
The focus is on:
-
Focusing on process rather than outcome
-
Developing strong growth-mindset habits
-
Understanding identity beyond football
-
Setting clear, intentional goals for the week ahead
Sessions are structured, practical, and age-appropriate, with separate groups to ensure discussions are relevant to each stage of development.
The goal is simple: to help players develop perspective, emotional control, and a long-term love for the game.

We cover:
-
Managing expectations and long-term development
-
Reducing pressure while maintaining healthy standards
